The Can of Worms Is Just Being Opened
Same-sex couple targets school system
And some people tell me that it wont affect my marriage or family. They are right...a gay or lesbian couple won't affect my marriage. But now, since the Same-Sex Marriage bill was pushed through parliament, the focus will change. Every single fabric of the nation that does not mention gays and lesbians in the way they want to be seen will be considered as discriminatory and a human rights violation. The first salvo will be the schools and the curriculum. Does this mean that all the teaching materials that the schools use are to be replaced with ones that mention gays and lesbians in the way they want to be seen? Wouldn't that be discriminatory if it wasn't done? Wouldn't that cost a lot? Wouldn't I have to pay for it? Just asking!!
Would businesses be next? If I do recall at one time companies had to hire a certain number of visible minorities to equal a percentage of their entire staff. I remember it was that way at NADP where I used to work. Would this now include gays and lesbians as a visible minority? How do you tell if a person is gay or lesbian? Just asking!!
It was the can of worms "after" same-sex marriage that was my biggest concern and I would think something of this magnitude would be asked of the citizens of Canada to help determine. Instead it was forced through parliament. Canada is only the third country in the world to legislate same-sex marriage. Congratulations Mr. Martin.
Will it affect my family and marriage? Nope! It will stay as a family and the marriage will be just fine. It might cost me a little more due to the newly legislated minority but it will survive. But since we homeschool our kids with Christian undertones, would that mean we would fall under the same guidelines and we would have to teach all the positives about being gay or lesbian? Just asking because that might just affect our family in a few ways....

Here is something of interest that a friend sent to me a couple of days ago. When we say that this won't affect our marriage or the raising of our children, I think we are wrong

It was reported in the PG Citizen that the teachers are complaining to the Human
Rights Tribunal about discrimination against Gay, L&T people because of a
lack of positive portrayals and they are including independant schools in their
complaint. The lawyer for the Education Ministry indicated complete surprise at the request. M. Corren said "if schools are publicly funded they are required to follow provincial curriculum". The complaintants (public Teachers) want the education regarding gays and lesbians to be a part of the mandatory education.

I really feel this is interfering with the rights of parents to educate their children regarding their own family morals and values. Why do people feel that we need to be a form of "homogenized" culture? What is happening to our freedom in this country? A minority of individuals gains a freedom and a majority looses freedom.
Thanks for you comment Kim. In my opinion, that is just part of the can of worms that is going to be opened now. As much as one of my friends keeps telling me that it won't affect my family, I keep thinking that same-sex marriage won't affect my relationship with my family but it is the other things that this bill will open up that will affect my family. Now that the Gay and Lesbian community is...for lack of better words...forcing the country to portray them in the light they want to be portrayed, starting with the education system...it will affect my family like you said. It seems that now I am not allowed to have an opinion opposite of their views without being a bigot. Your right in that our freedoms are being eroded. I don't view Gay and Lesbianism as a visible minority. In some circles that view is considered as "redneck" or a racial slur. Freedom of expression is going to be a lost freedom soon too. Don't be surprised if there are lawsuits against the governments for past "injustices" against the Gay and Lesbian nation!!
