Higher Speed Dial-up?

All of a sudden I can connect at 44kbs. Last week the power went out and someone was working on the power pole. Ever since then I have been connecting at 28.8kbs. A little history here...I had set my modem to act as a V.34 and to connect between 26kbs and 33kbs. I was using some init strings to do that. So I did an experiment. I removed the init strings and presto...I am connecting at 44kbs. With my Netscape Accelerated Dial-up (SlipStream) it almost makes browsing like High-speed!! Well, OK, probably not that high but it is better than before. One thing though, I still can't download any faster than dial-up so please don't send big files. One day, I'll get high-speed and then you can send all the big files you want!! :-)
