A National Referendum On Marriage - Update

Campaign Update
January 14, 2005
Our campaign for a referendum on the meaning of marriage is off to a good strong start!

In the first few days, over six thousand Canadians have sent over 60,000 e-mail letters to federal decision-makers, including the Supreme Court.

This is just the beginning.

Let's keep the pressure building to protect the democratic rights of ALL Canadians under section 33 of the Charter. Section 33 is our only constitutional safeguard against judges reshaping our country without our consent. Our elected politicians have to start using it!

If you agree with the campaign but haven't sent the letter, please go to http://www.marriagereferendum.ca

If you have already sent it, please forward this link to people you know who agree. Our goal is to reach 100,000 letters (including carbon copies) next week. The Internet is a marvellous tool, if we use it.

PHASE TWO -- HARD COPIES

To maximize the impact of this campaign, we will begin printing and mailing paper copies of all e-mail letters sent to Paul Martin from the Citizens Centre website. This means the Prime Minister, the eight other MPs and senators, and the Supreme Court, will receive a hard copy of the letter a few days after it arrives by email.

The arrival of thousands of personalized letters in the Prime Minister's office will get a lot of attention. Protocol requires them to be answered individually. (Carbon copies to other MPs are not usually answered.)

This will be a big project, but it's well worth it. For this reason we are asking for your support. Postage to federal politicians is free, but the printing and handling cost of 60,000 personalized letters is considerable. If you can help, you can donate on-line at http://www.citizencentre.com/support.html. The Citizens Centre depends entirely upon donations to do its work.

There are people all over the world fighting to establish Freedom and Democracy in their countries. Let's not lose it in ours.

Sincerely,
Craig Docksteader
Operations Manager
